The Boatshed has a long association with the nation's most revered and respected multisport race - the Coast to Coast (C2C). Many of our kayakers have done the event several times over. We can help to prepare you for the C2C by providing you with the kayaking skills you need to get to the starting line. The Grade 2 course is specially designed for C2C kayak preparation.

  • First, visit the Café to view photos of our kayakers competing in the event. These may help to get you inspired.
  • Once inspired, come and talk to us about your own C2C aspirations.
  • Then get into a boat and start training, with our guidance.
  • You will also need to do some running and cycling.

If you don't have a boat, don't go out and buy one until you have tried paddling some of the boats we have here first. There are so many choices and so many questions to be answered before a decision should be made, that we believe the only way for you to find the best choice for your needs is to actually use the different kayaks in the water, paddling each for an hour or two on the lake. If you are purchasing your kayak through us, we will allow you to use our trial boats at no charge.

Every year we have a large number of our regular customers and kayakers doing the event. By becoming part of our scene you can talk to these people and benefit from their years of C2C experience. Try doing the Sunday morning Horahora bridge paddle, stop for breakfast afterwards and you are very likely to start hearing the C2C stories emerging from the experienced athletes surrounding you. Before long C2C training and competing may become a part of your life as it is for them.
