If you're in the market for a boat, don't go out and buy one until you have tried paddling some of the boats we have here first. There are so many choices and so many questions to be answered before a decision should be made, that we believe the only way for you to find the best choice for your needs is to actually use the different kayaks in the water, paddling each for an hour or two on the lake.

Ghost:

Ghost kayak from Wildabout The GHOST is the boat for the person who needs a little extra stability but doesn’t want to compromise on speed. It has been designed with speed in mind, is suitable for paddlers 65kg plus and is well at home with 100kg plus paddlers.
It has an elevated cockpit for easy entry and exit and a streamlined front to carve up the opposition and is narrow through the catch area allowing you to get your paddle in nice and close for a more efficient catch. Large Rocker allows the Ghost to ride the big waves and not take a backward step. The Ghost has a large turn up at the nose to prevent boil grab and allows it to ride up on top of the boils/eddies and carry on in its desired direction. Recessed at the rear of the Ghost to allow the rudder to be nice and close to reduce drag. Plenty of close-up photos showing details here at Wildabout.

Drunken Monkey Viper
Drunken Monkey Kayaks is a totally new kayak design and manufacturing studio located in Nelson Bays, New Zealand. They are defining new improved standards and performance for both multi sport and sea kayaking.
Drunken Monkey Kayaks encompasses a range of fresh, new and innovative kayak designs. They are working towards optimum performance multi sport kayaks with hulls that suit a broad range of paddler skill and experience. Sea Kayaks are also planned for the near future. Visit Drunken Monkey for further information.

At the Boatshed we are retailing Drunken Monkey's beautiful Viper design kayak, (shown here below) and have a demo boat here for you to trial.

Viper features a shallow rounded V hull with a pronounced keel line and and a wave piercing bow. Large waterplane areas fore and aft reduce pitching and help increase the hulls Prismatic Coefficient for maximum speed in all conditions. Stability is excellent and wetted surface area is minimised.

The lazy S sheer line rises behind the cockpit to add beam high above the waterline at the deck level to give the best secondary stability in its class. This hull has great surfing potential and resists broaching without affecting manouverability. Panel stiffness of the hull is exceptional thanks to the v hull, softly rounded curves and advanced laminate design. Viper is a kayak that suits paddlers between 70 and 90 kg. Even though the waterline is narrow there is enough primary stability for paddlers advancing from an entry level boat, and the speed potential for fit strong paddlers to be competitive at the head of any race field.

Viper Specifications Length Beam Waterline beam 5700 475 426 Viper is available in 3 build specifications Standard Glass hull / Glass deck 17 kg $2699 Race Carbon / Kevlar hull with glass deck 15 kg $2999 Ultra Carbon / Kevlar hull with glass and carbon deck 13 kg $ 3299 with toughened Vynil Ester resin hull.
