Winter Race Series -
Results on Results page.
May 2nd - Race Report on First race of the 2010 Series
The first race of the winter race series coincided with the start of duck shooting season, and a foggy morning on the lake, causing a few nervous paddlers. The 18 km paddlers started their race in pea soup conditions. The only option was to hug the lake shore. I was racing as well, and had a short lived lead, until I lost sight of the bank in the fog, and ended up on the other side of the lake paddling up the waterfalls inlet . . . oops. About half way to the bridge the fog cleared to blue skies and perfect conditions .Matt Hall had built a good lead finishing first in in 1hr 42 min.
The 9 km paddlers started at the bridge with no fog, flat water, and no duck shooters in sight. Malcom Dunning was first home in 52 min. Teresa Mumby was next over the line taking out first woman in 55 mins. Special “Duck“ awards went to Kristen and Kerry for unplanned swims during the race .
The next winter race is on the 6th of June, the day after the Maunga Mission. The 18 km will start at the Little Waipa Reserve. We will ferry all the boats and paddlers up there. The paddle down from the Little Waipa is very scenic and you have a current pushing you for the first few kms. If you feel this distance is too long, find a partner, and we have adventure double available ( special rate for the race $60-00 per double ) Hope to see you all there for next race.

Cheers Richard

Sunday morning time-trial/bridge-Boatshed paddle.

  • We trailer the boats to Horahora so you can paddle them back to the Boatshed. Make sure you book in advance if you require transport to Horahora or to hire a boat.
Those needing even more training can choose to start at the Boatshed and paddle up to Horahora and back. Whichever distance you choose, this is a highly worthwhile training session with cut-throat competition on the water (if you want it) and a great social time in the Café afterwards. Those post-paddle boatshed breakfasts are such great motivation.
    Paddle takes 48min - 1hr 30mins.
    • 8am meet at the Boatshed
    • 9km From the Horahora bridge back to The Boatshed
    • Breakfast at the Boatshed when you finish. Prices from $7.30 to $14.50

Boatshed Summer Racing Series for Summer 2009-10
Results on Results Page
The last race of the series, saw a great turnout, with close racing. A slight Southeasterly head wind made the 18km field work up to the bridge turn round. Several wakeboard boats made it even trickier for the K1 paddlers. Andrew got swamped and then had a swim, dropping him back in the field. Brad Hayes had a strong paddle finishing well ahead of second placed Matt Hall, and close behind Isaac Meyer in third. Matt took out the series finishing in the points in three races. Hannah took out the last race in the womens 18kms, and was the overall points winner.

In the 9km event a small field started the last race, Kristen Kilgour coming in 30 sec ahead of Vicky Willis, with Bill Shaw taking third. Kristen took out the womens series, and Bill the mens. All winners of their sections can pick up vouchers for $100 dollars from the Boatshed.

A new feature of this series has been the inclusion of a junior 4km race for the last two rounds, with Amelia Hayes taking the series ahead of Jess Blair and Jono Blair third. This race will now feature in both the winter and summer series. I have some prizes for the juniors to pick up. Hopefully this race will encourage juniors to get out there and have ago. Our winter race series will kick off on the 2nd of May.
